HONOURING THE LEGACY OF DR. HERBERT ONYEWUMBU WIGWE

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Herbert Onyewumbu Wigwe, CFR, a visionary leader, philanthropist, and a true titan of Nigerian business whose impact has left an indelible mark on our nation’s history and Africa’s shores.

Dr. Wigwe died on Friday, 9th February, 2024 with his wife Chizoba and son Chizi, together with Otunba Abimbola Ogunbanjo, all in a tragic helicopter accident in the US.

Dr. Wigwe’s legacy extends far beyond his role as the founding Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc and former Group Managing Director of Access Bank Plc. His dedication to serving others and his profound impact on countless lives will forever resonate in our hearts.

As an esteemed adopter of the Adopt-A-Healthcare-Facility Programme (ADHFP) through the Herbert Onyewumbu Wigwe (HOW) Foundation, he adopted 25 PHCs in Rivers State, Nigeria. Dr. Wigwe’s involvement with the ADHFP exemplified his dedication to leading by example and improving healthcare access and quality in Nigeria.

Dr. Wigwe was a proud supporter of Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria’s (PSHAN) efforts to promote sustainable healthcare solutions and drive positive change in the Nigerian health sector. His leadership and vision will continue to inspire us in our mission to create equitable access to quality and affordable healthcare.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Dr. Wigwe’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time; may God grant them all the strength to navigate this challenging time. May Dr. Wigwe’s legacy of compassion, dedication, and service live on as a beacon of hope and inspiration for us all.
