PRIVATE SECTOR INVESTMENT IN PRIMARY HEALTHCARE

As the first point of interaction between the grassroots and the healthcare system, primary healthcare is the foundation of a strong healthcare system. It is imperative to underline the need for increased investment in Primary healthcare in Nigeria, a nation with a fast-expanding population and a variety of healthcare concerns. Nigeria can improve access to vital health services, improve health outcomes, and establish the groundwork for a healthier and more successful country by committing greater resources to Primary Health centers.

In Nigeria, the primary healthcare system is greatly aided and strengthened by the private sector. Private sector involvement contributes vital resources, experience, and innovation to bridge the gaps in healthcare delivery as the public healthcare system faces severe challenges. The private sector can greatly improve access, quality, and sustainability in primary healthcare services across the nation by working with the government and other stakeholders. Nigeria’s government can in turn increase access, quality, and effectiveness in primary healthcare by working with the private sector, leveraging their knowledge, resources, and creativity. This will benefit the populace and advance the nation’s overall development.

By making investments in the country’s infrastructure, bolstering the healthcare personnel, utilizing technology, assuring quality assurance, and working together through PPPs, the private sector has a significant opportunity to help primary healthcare in Nigeria. Private sector groups can enhance access, quality, and sustainability in primary healthcare services by coordinating their resources and expertise with government initiatives. Together, the private and public sectors can work towards achieving universal and equitable access to primary healthcare for all Nigerians, resulting in improved health outcomes and the overall development of the country.

In this light, PSHAN partnered with the MTN Foundation on the ‘What We Can Do Together Project’. to remodel 40 PHCs in the country. The project plans to upgrade and supply medical equipment and consumables to 40 PHCs; install solar-powered boreholes in each PHC and solar-powered hybrid solutions in each PHC.
